It would not be right to say he kicked the bucket.

First the surgeon clipped a couple of toes.
But before too long he took a foot,
The doctor cut it off almost at the ankle.

Yes, it was a very dreary business.
Burton was chopped down.

His disease had brought the big man down,
Burton, down, and of him the adage reads:

Above life itself, he loved his drink.

The genie was in the bottle,
Her spirit, more to him than family and friends,
He held her close,
And fondled her, until death did them part.
